The distillery was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii and was registered as a company in 1936. In 1934, the first single malt whisky from Japan was produced at the site; it was named Yamazaki, after the former name of this region. The distillery is located on a site owned by Suntory and has been managed by them since 1984. It has three production lines: one for making bulk whisky for all brands under Suntory’s umbrella (which includes the Hakushu line), one for producing high-end Limited Release bottlings of whiskies from their existing lines, and one dedicated to making their flagship 18 year old single malt whisky (Yamazaki 18).

Matured exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks, this bottle has been finished off with some Oloroso sherry casks to give it an extra layer of complexity and depth to its flavour profile. On the nose you can expect sweet notes such as maple syrup alongside subtle hints of cinnamon spice too!
