Distilled and matured at the Macallan distillery, this 15 years old whisky is a revival of the tradition of vatting. The first batch was made in 2003 when its master blender selected a number of casks that he felt would make an exceptional blend. The second was made in 2010 using the same maturation process, except that this time half of the whisky was from first fill casks – red wine barriques and white oak hogsheads – which contribute to the rich character of Macallan’s spirit.

Macallan 15 Year Old Double Cask boasts a rich, concentrated and oak-led spirit with a complex underlying sweetness of caramelised fruits and honey. The finish is spicy and long lasting but well balanced enough not to overwhelm the palate.

This whisky was aged in standard American white oak sherry casks and refill American oak sherry butts, resulting in a rich and complex whisky which offers mellow flavors of toffee, spice and citrus peel. Macallan 15 Year Old Double Cask has an alcohol content of 43% and is non-chill filtered through traditional methods to deliver its natural oils.

Macallan Double Cask is aged in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks.The resulting palette displays the rich, ripe fruits typical of Macallan’s character but with a more complex, nutty character as well.

Double Cask drams are marrying different Macallan expressions and toasting them in a second cask, which is generally an ex-American oak hogshead. These Double Cask whiskies tend to have increased weight and richness, with a slightly smoky character from the peated barley. This Double Cask has been created by marrying fine 15 year old single malts with older expressions resulting in an incredibly distinctive whisky.
