Introduction

Macallan (Macallan 15 Year Old Fine Oak) is one of the most famous and iconic brands in the world. It’s been around for over 200 years, and it’s as popular today as it ever was. The distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid and William Logan at the height of Scotch whisky’s popularity: demand was high, but supply was low. To make up for this deficit, Reid decided to start his own distillery. And so he did. But it wasn’t until Alexander Lorne Macallan took over management that things really started to get interesting! In 1858, when he took charge of production at Macallan Distillery, there were only three stills working at any given time due to their limited capacity—this meant that each batch produced only about 1 barrel per day (about 180 gallons). This may not seem like much now but back then it was compared with other distilleries’ output which averaged around 100 barrels per week!
