Macallan 1954 is the oldest whisky in Macallan’s 1945-1964 portfolio and is the largest cask of Macallan ever bottled. The whisky was distilled in February 1954, to Scottish medicinal standards and matured entirely in American oak with no colouring added. It was bottled at 50 years old straight from cask number 2610, using a combination of bourbon and sherry casks.

Sourcing the finest casks from a small proportion of the distillery’s rarely used oak warehouse, its exceptional richness is a result of the wild spirit that has matured for 30 years in these ex-Sherry casks.

Only 300 bottles were produced and each one was kept in a climate-controlled room that kept the temperature at a perfect 64 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s 40 years old, and is more expensive than its younger counterparts because it’s so rare. The scotch is said to have notes of raisin, cinnamon and orange zest, making it a true classic dram to sip on during special occasions.

Founded in 1824, The Macallan has always been bottled at the most appropriate time; this means that only a few years after acquisition the whisky is ready to be bottled and sold. The distillery lies on the western shore of Scotland’s Speyside region, a site chosen by Macallan founder Alexander Reid, an enterprising man who was on intimate terms with many of Europe’s royal houses.
