Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask is the natural progression for a classic Macallan Whisky. The twelve year old blend is matured in two types of cask – American oak and European oak – giving it its distinctive character.

It has a delicious, intense and pleasant taste, without being harsh or overpowering. The whisky features notes of oak and caramel with hints of pears, dried fruits and vanilla beans.

Macallan 12 double cask is a limited edition Highland Scotch whisky. It’s the result of an experiment that started in 2012, when Macallan first filled 521 oak casks with its iconic spirit. From the beginning, Macallan was aiming for a flavour profile that would be unusual for a 12 year old whisky. After five years in these first cask strengths, the malt has been transferred to hand selected second fills – first fill European oak hogsheads, seasoned with American oak staves – and aged for another three more years before final bottling at 46% ABV.

Double cask is made with whisky matured in two separate casks – one bourbon, and one sherry. As each spirit matures, it draws flavour and character from the wood of its cask. Double cask is unique because it combines the intensity and purity of scotch whisky at its peak with the depth and complexity of older spirits.

Macallan Double Cask 12 Year Old is a sophisticated and complex expression of whiskey. Aged in oak casks until 12 years old, it has elegant notes of vanilla and dried fruit with a smooth, spicy finish.

A double cask is a single malt that has been matured in two casks, typically ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The Macallan 12 Double Cask is matured for an average of 12 years in first fill American oak casks. That’s 4 years longer than the standard 10 year Macallan.

Aged in a combination of new oak and seasoned European Oak, this whisky is light and delicately fruity. It’s designed to deliver an elegant and balanced drinking experience while remaining true to the classic Macallan character.

Macallan 12 double cask whisky was created by the Macallan whisky company in partnership with expert blender, Peter Moore. This incredible whisky contains a blend of up to 50% sherry cask-aged Macallan 12 and 50% grain cask-aged Macallan 12. The result is a refreshingly soft and rounded Scotch whisky that boasts signature Macallan character but with a smoother finish.

Macallan 12 Double Cask has a wood spice aroma, with a warming oaky flavour that’s distinctively rich and sweet. Retains the typical Macallan smoothness, but there is an extra richness and depth. A drop of water adds further depth while softening some of the edges.
