Macallan Edition No 5

Macallan Edition No 5 is a limited release whisky from the Macallan distillery in the Highlands. The Macallan Edition No 5 is the product of the finest casks which have matured at The Macallan distillery, carefully selected by our Master Distiller, Bob Dalgarno.

The Macallan Edition No 5 was created using both new American Oak and Sherry Wood, the latter which was previously used for the Macallan Edition No 6.

Macallan Edition No. 5 is a unique blend of rare, Single-Malt whiskies that are over 50 years old. Each cask is hand selected for its exceptional quality and individuality. Then, our Master Blender selects the finest casks from each year to create a rich, full-bodied whisky with complex aromas and exceptionally balanced flavours of dried fruit and malty sweetness.

The Macallan Edition No 5 – Distilled from 100% American oak, the whisky was then aged in a combination of cask types and new casks for seven years. Each bottle is presented in a unique hand-blown glass vessel that allows the cornucopia of flavors and aromas to be savored as they develop over time.

The Macallan Edition No. 5 is the first whisky to be launched by The Macallan in over two decades. It was named after the year George Smith founded The Macallan distillery in 1824 and is crafted using an assortment of precious old stocks of spirit, including heavily sherried whisky aged in American oak casks, Spanish oak sherry casks, with some casks milled down to their staves and were used for finishing. This unique combination gives Macallan Edition No 5 a bold flavor profile that is rich and fruity on the nose with notes of tropical fruit, leather and sweetness while the palate feels oily and has vanilla sweetness with hints of spice & oak.

The Macallan Edition No 5 celebrates the art of craftsmanship, the traditional techniques and pioneering spirit that define the Macallan distillery. Created in partnership with The Macallan and a small group of master craftsmen, this whisky is bottled at a strength of 123.2 proof to allow more natural water to infuse into its rich caramel notes. Featuring a single American oak cask that was filled with American oak sherry casks and aged for 31 years, Edition No 5 is a deep, rich amber whisky that captures complex spice and caramel notes. The Macallan Edition No. 5 Scotch whisky is a limited edition bottling of The World’s most expensive whisky named “The Macallan Edition No. 5”, bottled in 2015. It was created to celebrate the 5th anniversary of an annual charity tasting and auction event hosted by The Macallan that has raised over £2 million for charities around the world. This special edition was offered in three different auction events: at Famille Perrin, Artcurial, and Bonhams.

This limited edition, one-off bottling takes a unique approach to the creation of our Macallan Rare Cask whisky by blending together two cask types: European oak and Sherry casks. Macallan Edition No. 5 is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Macallan distillery, released in 2008 as a limited edition to celebrate 125 years of production. It was named fifth in The Whisky Bible 2010 by Jim Murray. The whisky, distilled in May and June 1983, spent 25 years maturing in oak casks before being bottled at 43% ABV.

Macallan Edition No 5 is a blended whisky with a nose of ripe dark fruits and blackcurrants. The palate of this Highland whisky is rich and full, with spices, dried fruits, chocolate and burnt caramel to the fore. Macallan Edition No 5 is a limited edition whisky created by the Macallan distillery. It is non chill-filtered and bottled at cask strength of 54.6% ABV. The blend consists of Macallan’s core range whisky and specially selected casks from their Spanish oak sherry cask reserve in Jerez, Spain.

Macallan Edition No. 5 is a fusion of four rare malts aged for 24 years in first fill sherry wood, then cut with a marriage of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry Vintages for a rich, elegant and complex whisky that highlights the characteristics of all four casks.
