The Macallan distillery, located in Speyside (near Ballindalloch), is one of the most popular and prestigious single malt Scotch whisky producers in Scotland. Its production dates back to 1824 when it was established by Alexander Reid as a farm distillery called “Glencraig.” The name changed to “The Macallan” in 1878 when Alexander’s son Thomas took over.
The Macallan is currently owned by the Edrington Group which produces several other brands including Highland Park Single Malt Whisky and Highland Spring bottled water.

It is also known for using only natural ingredients to create their fine malts: water from local springs; barley grown by hand on their own farm; malt which they produce themselves at their own malting floors; and yeast cultivated from local barley – all sourced from within a radius of 100 miles.
