This is the third bottling in the Rare Cask series from Macallan. This product was distilled at Macallan in 2015 and has been matured in a sherry cask for 12 years. It was then bottled at 41.4% ABV.

The Macallan Rare Cask batch No. 3 honors the whisky-making traditions of The Macallan. This limited edition expression is drawn from our most exceptional casks with an average age of 35 years. Each cask was carefully selected by our master distiller, David Stewart, and represents the finest examples of his craftsmanship. The result is a whisky that is rich and complex with powerful aromas and flavors of dried fruit, honey and oak.

Rare Cask Batch No. 3 is a bottle of two non-age statement limited edition whisky, released in 2018 by the Macallan distillery. The release is a vatting of sherry matured single malts, both old and young, which each hold their own individual character within the bottle

The Rare Cask Batch no 3 is the third in the series of releases that showcases individual expressions of Macallan at its very best; drawn from a single cask. The 2018 edition features some of the distillery’s rarest casks and most unique sources, dating from 1965 to 1998.What makes this edition so special? It’s a combination of hard-to-find vintage casks, including an Oloroso sherry butt. This whisky was matured in white oak, using whisky which had previously been matured in ex-Bourbon barrels before being filled into Sherry Butt casks. Another three casks were filled with new make spirit direct from the stills before going into a solera system.

This, the third release in the Rare Cask series, is a marriage of European oak and Spanish oak Sherry butts. The result is a superbly rich and intense whisky with rich mature flavours of raisins, chocolate and coffee.

Tasting Note: A nose of honey, peat and tropical fruits reveals complex aromas that are balanced with delicate oak influence. This full-bodied dram is rich in flavour with a lingering finish.
