Yamazaki Bordeaux Wine Cask 2020 Edition is the most incredible release in our history. It is batched on a series of vintages and made in limited quantites, each with its own unique aging profile. This Yamazaki blend offers intriguing aromas of licorice, caramelized fruits and a hint of vanilla as hints of balsamic come to the fore.

Yamazaki Bordeaux Wine Cask is aged for at least 3 years in hand-selected French oak barrels, which were previously used to age premium Bordeaux wine. This whisky is smooth and balanced with aromas of vanilla and baking spice, along with hints of citrus, ripe plum and dried fruits.

This release is inspired by the Yamazaki Distillery’s bordeaux barrel maturation project from 2017, and the resulting wine cask is matured for 12 months in American oak casks that formerly held Bordeaux red wines. This rich, yet delicate whisky has aromas of blackcurrant, dried fruits, vanilla and chocolate notes. The body is smooth and creamy with flavours of dried fruit and spice completing this complex and delicious Yamazaki whisky.

A bold and complex whisky, Yamazaki Bordeaux Wine Cask is an exploration of the distillate in Yamazaki’s warehouse. After a long maturation process, the whisky is left to steep in Bordeaux wine casks from France for 20 months. These casks impart a rich texture to the single malt, giving it layers of fruit and spice.

Creating a new blend of Yamazaki whiskies that embody the original distillation spirit, with richer notes of black fruits and oak than before. This unique release is inspired by the Yamazaki distillery’s history: the building was first constructed in 1919 to age Bordeaux wines, hence its name, ‘Bordeaux Wine Cask’.

Yamazaki Bordeaux Wine Cask is a limited release whisky, expertly selected by our master blender and supreme connoisseur of fine whisky Nikka Taketsuru. This Japanese single malt is matured in oak casks that were previously used to age Bordeaux wine from renowned vineyards in France. The Yamazaki distillery has deep roots in Japanese history and holds an important place in Japanese culture. Established in 1923 by the founder of Suntory Ltd., Mr. Shinjiro Torii (a former chemist,) it owes its name to a famous racehorse owned by Mr. Torii, who won the Midspring Derby in 1921 named “Yamazaki” (the northeast area of Kyushu island is also known as Yama-kan).

This is a limited production whisky made from Yamazaki’s own malted and unmalted barley, distilled in small batches to create a single-grain spirit. The casks used for ageing are made of French oak – Bordeaux wine casks – one of the most highly sought after wood types used by wineries in France. In order to emphasise the fruity and fruity tropical qualities of this whisky, the whisky was bottled at 49% ABV.
